our pilot

Just as they announce on the PA that our plane is delayed, a big bellied Guy wearing a coat which appeared to that of a pilot uniform pass by me with shirt open, crumpled hair and looks like Just had an all nighter. Everyone's puzzled and the Guy next to me can't help bit ask me if he's our pilot. I answered I hope not but if he is I don't mind staying another cold night in Vermont. Oh yeah he said..right behind you pal!!!

216: needle in a haystack

I got caught up comparing myself to my colleagues. I never though too much of myself when I got this job until I found out that picking the person for this position was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

215: South Burlington

My first night in a very quiet city of South Burlington Vermont. Haven't seen much except took a walk earlier to a nearby steak house and sample their local beer and a nice medium rare top sirloin with my Israeli Colleague. Tomorrow I am going to the Allscripts headquarters for a training on their HL7 engine which is the central hub for interoperability between our offices' complex healthcare system. The night is a little bit chilly but bearable which is good news to me since I didn't have "real" warm clothes. Meantime, I just found out that this city is famous for it's maple syrup. I'm not a fun of sweets but it might be worth bringing home a bottle or two.

214: vt

I am on a tiny plane a crj 700 plane to vt pinned on a wall while my android is playing springsteen's trapped. Quite an appropriate song. Earlier I was in o'hare. Huge airport. I didn't get to grab anything to eat as my next leg is about to leave in 10 minutes. It's going to be another hour before I can breath. I am so hungry. I only had a cold bagel when I was in san diego. I am surrounded with folks reading pocket books. Apparently have not heard of kindle. My friend Jay warned me about maples in VT. What ever that meant I have no idea.

213: Best Wishes

A former co-work asked me if I met someone interesting in my new job. I said yes but they are all married except for one. Good she said. So do you want to do something about it? she asked. I said no because I just found out she getting married this week.  Instead of taking my shot at her, I shelled out 5 bucks for my share for her gift and sign a "Best Wishes" card.

212: why I love my Android

It's been two weeks since I swapped my iPhone with the Android. I must say I don't miss my iPhone one bit. Here's why:

5. Rugged. The Android  is heavier and much tougher that the more Sexier iPhone. I work in a rough environment and I would need a tough phone.

4. Speed. Hands down the Android is much snappier than the iPhone. Web surfing is on warp speed even viewing photos in FB or playing youtube video is a snap.

3. Neat Features. Flash Drive: My Android comes with a 14GB SD Card which can be replaced easily with a bigger capacity. The Phone can be used as a flash drive through USB connection to any computer. Music: using an app, I can sync iTunes into my Android in no time or just simple drop my whole music folder into the SD Card and you are set. Ringtones: Play any song in your Android and you can choose to set it as your ringtone. Camera: 5 Mega Pixel resolution with video mode and a built in flash.

2. GPS. The Android GPS is miles ahead of the iPhone. With it's tight integration to google maps, the GPS apps provides turn by turn direction with voice. I find it even better than my garmin. One time I almost had an accident trying to use my Iphone GPS. I travel around San Diego most of the time and the Android GPS is a life saver.

1. Call for free. When making a call, I can connect to any WIFI and route my call  using my FREE google voice phone number. Quite a nifty feature when traveling abroad. I can see myself using my phone in the Philippines by just finding a WIFI spot.

Need I say more?

211: Different but not difficult

I've been neglectful in writing my blog since I moved to a new job. It was a very different transition but actually not difficult.

Different in such a way that the system we are using are all windows based (hey don't get me wrong I still dig open source). Different because it's more of a corporate setting. Different, well new office, new boss, new colleagues, new responsibilities. Not difficult because I've know technology all my life. Window, Linux, Mac maybe different in term on how the innards are built, but the concept is all the same. Not difficult because I can adopt to different situation pretty quickly. Not difficult because I don't have to impress anyone but just do my job. Not difficult because I don't have to play politics, I just play technology around our data center (which by the way is 30 times on what I used to handle).

Yes it is different but not difficult...if you know what your doing of course.
